The Wainwright Lake District peaks
Ten classic Wainwrights for first-time fell-walkers.
Alfred Wainwright's seven Pictorial Guides (1955-66) catalogued 214 Lake District summits. Few people 'bag' all 214, but most regular Lakes walkers know the ten classics — Helvellyn, Scafell Pike (England's tallest), Skiddaw, the Old Man of Coniston, Bowfell, Catbells, Haystacks, Great Gable, Cat Bells and the High Stile ridge. This guide picks the ten most accessible for novice fell-walkers.
