Details War memorial plaque, unveiled 1920 DESCRIPTION: the rectangular stone tablet sits on two, small, stone brackets and is surmounted by a cross. The memorial is set into the front wall of the dwellings which form 34/36 Albert Street* and is inscribed with 12 names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. The inscription on the plaque reads: ‘FOR REMEMBERANCE/ 1914-1918/ GEORGE CHAMBERLAINE/ARCHIBOLD W CORLEY/PERCIVAL CORLEY-ROBERT HOLDER/RICHARD DUNHAM-ERNEST DUNHAM/ROBERT GIBSON-EDWARD FOSTER/REUBENLAURENCE-HARRY SPENCE/DANIEL GOODCHILD-SILAS PAYNE/RIP'. *Pursuant to s.1 (5A) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 (‘the Act’) it is declared that the dwellings which form 34 and 36 Albert Street are not of special architectural or historic interest. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 12 January 2017.
