Details War memorial plaque, unveiled 1920 by Bishop of St Albans, Dr Michael Furse DESCRIPTION: the memorial comprises a simple inscribed stone tablet with a wood and bronze (?) crucifix surmounted by a shallow hood. The memorial is set into the front wall of the dwelling that forms11 Pageant Road* and is inscribed with nine names of those who lost their lives in the First World War. The inscription reads: ‘1914 1918/JAMES CONSTABLE/GEORGE DRAPER/JOHN FRANCIS /PERCY JEFFRIES/ERNEST LEWIS/FREDERICK MERRYDALE/ EDWARD PERHAM/ALBERT STONE/ERNEST TODD/RIP’. *Pursuant to s.1 (5A) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 (‘the Act’) it is declared that the dwelling that forms 11 Pageant Road is not of special architectural or historic interest. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 12 January 2017. This list entry was subject to a Minor Enhancement on 27 October 2022 to amend description.
