Category B Date Added 15/03/1963 Local Authority South Lanarkshire Planning Authority South Lanarkshire Burgh East Kilbride NGR NS 66597 56396 Coordinates 266597, 656396 — 1790; bridge; ashlar. Single span bridge; large pointed arch with battlemented parapet. — It is often assumed, incorrectly, that the bridge was named after General Wade. In fact, it is named after General Peters of the nearby Crossbasket Castle. Stoneymeadow Road was part of the 1790 turnpike road from East Kilbride to Hamilton and the bridge over the Rotten Calder was built as part of the scheme. Immediately to the NW of the bridge was the main entrance to the now demolished Calderwood Castle.
