Details This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 20 March 2023 to amend the date of construction, names of engineers and contractor and to reformat the text to current standards SD 62 SW 6/198 WHEELTON Engine Bridge (Number 84) at SD 601 221 II Accommodation bridge over Leeds-Liverpool canal. 1812-14. Supervising engineers Joseph and James Fletcher, contractor John Withnall. Graduated squared sandstone. Elliptical arch with rusticated voussoirs (painted white), simple keystone, band, parapet with rounded coping, pilastered ends; almost flat deck. Crosses shallow cutting along contour of slope.
