Details ST 76 SW 8/29 5.5.82 COMBE HAY COURSE OF DISUSED SOMERSET COAL CANAL Bridge over Canal, 25 yards east of Caisson House GV II Canal bridge. Circa 1805 for the Somerset Coal Canal Company. The surveyor to the Company was William Smith, the "Father of British Geology"; the engineer for the adjacent flight of locks (q.v.) was probably William Bennet. Ashlar. Single span arch with keystone. Parapet over a plain cornice. Supporting walls below adjoin a lock to the south. (K.R. Clew The Somersetshire Coal Canal and Railway.)
