Details WISTANSTOW SO48NE AFFCOT 1943-1/7/130 Affcot Manor 15/03/74 II Manor house. C16 or earlier, with C18 and C19 additions. Sandstone rubble; timber-frame and plaster; roughcast and painted brick; plain tile roof; rubble stack with spurred brick shafts and caps, to angle of cross-wing; early C20 brick ridge stack, on rubble base, to centre. PLAN: L-shaped on plan, with C18 or C19 wings to north and to east. EXTERIOR: west front: 2 storeys and cellar; single-storey and attic; scattered fenestration; cross-wing to south has inserted rubble panel to ground floor; rubble with chevron-braced framing over, with 4-light window with 2 early and 2 C20 panels of lattice glazing, over chamfered, cavetto-moulded wall plate; jettied tie beam with moulding and Tudor rose flanked by stylized lions, to gable with cusped concave lozenge bracing, and carved bargeboards and later finial. Range to left has gabled half-dormer with C19 4-light casement over early C19 8/8 sash under gauged brick flat arch; C20 fenestration and entrance to left, with C19 light to gable. Right returned side: roughcast; early C19 8/8 sash to ground floor, with two 6/6 sashes over, and scalloped moulded bargeboards with finial. Early C19 rear wing with 2 tiers of 8/8 sashes (late C19 to first floor) and similar bargeboards; right returned side has part-glazed 6-panel door and swagged fanlight under semi-circular arch, in late C19 brick porch with hipped plain tile pentice roof; scattered C19 fenestration, and 6-panel door with panelled reveals, in simple doorcase, to range to right; further single-storey wing with brick end stack.
