Details ARMITAGE WITH HANDSACRE TRENT AND MERSEY SK 01 NE CANAL 6/10000 Bridge No 60, off Church Lane at SK 079 164 - II Canal accommodation bridge. Late C18. Red brick with stone coping. Single span with towpath. Segmental headed arch. Swept wings terminating in piers at all 4 corners. Built into stone banks of a cutting. Lower sections of abutments are formed from a mixture of hewn stone and brick, particularly on the towpath side of abutment. There are minor brick repairs and part of the coping has been replaced in concrete. The Trent and Mersey Canal was built between 1766 and 1777 by James Brindley and Hugh Henshall.
