Category B Date Added 03/08/1971 Local Authority Dumfries And Galloway Planning Authority Dumfries And Galloway Burgh Langholm NGR NY 36304 84687 Coordinates 336304, 584687 — Robin Hotson contractor, 1775. Road bridge, 3 segmental arches over River Esk. Built of grey rubble with ashlar dressings, recessed arch-rings and pointed cutwaters (latter with some red ashlar repairs). Roadway widened on steel cantilevers 1880 (dated) - John Hyslop contractor - with angle brackets and cutwaters carried upwards as supports, latticed steel parapets with lamp brackets at abutments. Roadway slopes downwards from E bank to W. — Thomas Telford is said to have worked as an apprentice on the construction of this bridge.
