Details ILLOGAN CHURCH ROAD SW 64 SE (west side) 10/182 Churchtown Tower of former Church 1.12.51 of St Illogan (formerly listed as Tower of St Illogan's Church) GV II* Tower of former church. C14. Coursed squared granite. Square plan. Two tall stages, diagonal buttresses to the west Bide of the 1st stage, with one offset, small angle buttresses to the east side, and an embattled parapet. The 1st stage has a small 2-centred arched west window of 2 cusped lights (the lower half blocked) with a quatrefoil in the head and a hoodmould; the 2nd stage, set back above a weathered offset, has a square-headed louvred lancet and a square- headed belfry window of 2 arched trefoil lights with hollow spandrels and slate louvres, and a hoodmould; and a hollow-moulded cornice to the slightly- oversailing parapet, which has corner pinnacles finished with small crosses. The north and south sides have large added clock-faces below the belfry windows, and the south side has a square-headed lancet at the top of the 1st stage. The east side has a blocked depressed tower-arch, above this the outline of the gable of a former very small nave, and openings in the 2nd stage like those in the west side.
