About this reserve

This Lincolnshire nature reserve is a special place. Whichever season you visit, there's wildlife to watch and trails to tromp. Spy foraging Avocets, boxing Hares, and hunting Hen Harriers all at Frampton Marsh. ? ? Blessed with a variety of freshwater habitats, Frampton Marsh provides close views of the abundant birdlife of The Wash - the biggest bay in England. Avocets, Redshanks and Skylarks can all be seen in summer, with thousands of ducks gathering on the freshwater scrapes in winter. This is a landscape surrounded by waters teeming with life. The reserve is set against the shore of The Wash, the UK’s most important estuary for birds. Explore freshwater wetlands, reedbeds, wet grasslands and large shallow pools known as scrapes. Parking is not free to non-members, however, it is included in the reserve fee. Open daily. 1 coach space. No formal drop-off point. No lighting in car park. No height restriction barrier. Open daily, 10am-4pm. Both accessible toilets are located in the visitor centre. Unisex accessible toilet has non-slip flooring. The level, walk around our Reedbed Trail and up to the sea bank makes Frampton Marsh is the perfect place for a stroll in nature with a pushchair. Prior to your visit, please contact the reserve directly for detailed information. Reedbed trail mostly flat on compacted aggregate. Steps and gentle slopes, grass paths and uneven ground on other paths. BBQs are a fire risk, endangering other people and the precious wildlife and habitats here. Frampton Marsh is a nature reserve in Lincolnshire, England. The reserve is situated on the coast of The Wash, 4 miles from the town of Boston, between the outfalls of the Rivers Welland and Witham (covering an area of mature salt marsh known as The Scalp), and near the village of Frampton in an area known as the “Fosdyke Wash”. The majority of the reserve is managed by the RSPB with a small part of the saltmarsh managed by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. There is a visitor centre with an adjacent cafe at the entrance to the reserve.

Background

History

The majority of the site was purchased by the RSPB in 1984, but it was not until 2007, when arable farmland inland of the sea bank was purchased, that the wetland creation project began.
