Category B Date Added 09/03/1992 Local Authority Midlothian Planning Authority Midlothian Burgh Dalkeith NGR NT 33916 67590 Coordinates 333916, 667590 — Earlier-mid 19th century. Road bridge, on E-W axis. Single span with broad semicircular arch. Ashlar. Battered piers advanced from abutments. Channelled bull-faced spandrels. Half saddleback course below parapet. Saddleback coping to parapet; modern repairs to NE. Pyramidal-capped pier to NW, adjoined to rubble boundary wall of Dalkeith Estate (see separte listing for High Street, Duke's Gate, Town Lodge and Estate Walls). — New Cow Bridge carries Musselburgh Road (A6094) over River South Esk. This bridge was built sometime bertween 1835 and 1852.
