Stepped plinth; round arched faces to pedestal above, 1 bearing alto-rilievo portrate of Moffat in bronze, 2 with commemorative inscriptions; obelisk above. — Dr Moffat had been born in Ormiston in 1795. He was a fearless missionary in South Africa. Field Marshall Shute deemed (as the inscription declares) that "Among missionaries there was none holier than he".
