Details First World War memorial, 1920. MATERIALS: marble DESCRIPTION: the memorial faces north-east towards the west door of the church and comprises a stone wheel head cross raised on a square plinth with a shallow raised upper surface, and a single-stepped square base. The ends of the cross are indented, the wheel head takes the form of a carved laurel wreath and the intersection of the cross has an intaglio carved circular boss. The north-east face of the shaft bears an inscription in incised lettering and reads: THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1918/ IN MEMORY/ OF THE/ HOWGILL/ LADS/ WHO DIED/ THAT WE/ MIGHT LIVE. The names of the Fallen are inscribed on the plinth, followed by: ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION.
