Details PORTSMOUTH SU6300 VICTORIA PARK 774-1/8/124 HMS Powerful Memorial GV II Monument. c1900. Granite. 4 sided polished pink granite obelisk and base set on stepped stone base. Erected by "Captain the Hon. Hedworth Lambton, C.B., officers and ships company of H.M.S. Powerful", to "The memory of the officers and men of the Naval Brigade to H.M.S. Powerful who were killed in action or died during the campaign in South Africa, 1899-1900". Inscriptions list those who died and the following place names: Ladysmith, Graspan, Belmont, Moddere River, Paardeberg. (Berridge DW: Monuments and Memorials in the City of Portsmouth: 1984-: 18). Listing NGR: SU6610802158 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register.
