Details HARRIETSHAM STEDE HILL TQ 85 SE (west side) 4/55 Harrietsham Manor II* House: 1st half C15, with late C16 alterations and extension of 1903. Timber-framed with plaster infilling. Ground floor red brick with occasional grey headers in Flemish bond. Plain tile roof. Wealden, with open hall of 2 unequal bays and storeyed bay to either end. 2 storeys. Right and left end bays jettied. Jetties returned round side elevations. Longer left bay of hall has late C16 jetty at slightly higher level. Right bay of hall subdivided by substantial post into hall and cross-passage. Central post of hall appears to have solid Integral bracket carrying possibly integral first floor post with top tenoned to flying wall-plate. Solid brackets to flying wall-plate from right of central post and right end bay and peg-holes for similar arrangement to left bay. Close studded. Hipped roof. Central brick ridge stack. 2 early C20 hipped dormers. Irregular fenestration of 4 leaded casements of five, three and two lights. Doorway to right end of hall with durns under solid cambered lintel. C20 ribbed door with cambered leaded light over. Extension of 1903 to right. Interior: rear door durns, 2 service door-heads and jambs, moulded screens beam, moulded and brattished dais beam, moulded central truss post. Moulded late C16 inserted floor beams and C16 hall fireplace of chalk with 4-centred arched head and moulded wood mantel-piece Fielded panelling in hall said to be C18 pew-backs. Crown-post roof.
