Details A war memorial cross of mid-C20 date. MATERIALS: of dressed granite. DESCRIPTION: a plain tapering cross on a three-stepped square base and tapering plinth. The cross has an incised front (south) face with TO OUR/ GLORIOUS/ DEAD inscribed within a roundel at the base of the shaft. THe north face is inscribed: THE/ GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919. The cross shaft stands on a square base and a plaque is attached to the south face which reads: THIS PLAQUE COMMEMORATES/ THE NAMES OF THE/ MEN AND WOMEN/ OF FALMOUTH/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE WAR OF – 1939 – 1945/ THE NAMES OF THE FALLEN ARE RECORDED/ IN THE BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE/ IN THE PARISH CHURCH. The plinth below has a plaque that reads: THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918, below which (and to the other faces) the plinth is inscribed with names of the fallen. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 24 February 2017.
