Details SD 63 NE DUTTON 8/114 Dutton Manor GV II House, 1872. Built by Isaac Taylor of Manchester as a shooting lodge for the Fenton family. Sandstone rubble with some applied timber framing and slate roofs. 2 storeys with attic. The south front has 2 cross-wings, their 1st floors projecting on stone corbel tables. The windows are double-chamfered, mullioned and transomed. The west cross-wing has one of 8 lights on the ground floor, one of 6 lights on the 1st floor and a 3-light mullioned attic window. The east cross- wing has a 10-light window on the ground floor, one of 8 lights on the 1st floor and a 3-light mullioned attic window. The eaves project, a collar spanning the upper 2 purlins and carrying decorative bracing. The recessed central section has a single-storey porch with balustrade and moulded door surround with 4-centred head. On each side is a mullioned and transomed window, the left-hand one having pointed heads to the lights. On the 1st floor are 2 6-light windows and a plaque 'WFH 1872'. Above are 2 gabled attic dormers of applied timber framing. The east facade is of 5 bays, the 2 northern bays being a later addition. The windows are mullioned and transomed, except for the left-hand bay, which has a 2-sided oriel window on the 1st floor. There are 2 timbered attic dormers, and 2 stone dormers towards the rear. The west facade has, towards the rear, a 12-light mullioned and transomed window on the 1st floor lighting the billiard room, a one-storey square bay window towards the front, and a projecting round tower with a conical roof with eaves carried on wooden brackets supported on stone corbels. Above 1st floor level the stair is external. Inside there are some good marble fireplaces, and some wooden carved fireplace surrounds on the lst floor. The entr
