Details SS 92 SW BAMPTON 5/8 Combe Head - II Former manor house. Early C19, said to be a remodelling of an early C17 house. Stuccoed stone rubble with a hipped roof behind a parapet ; rendered end stacks. Plan: U plan with a single depth main range containing the principal rooms with a central entrance into a stair hall and rear left and right wings. Centre rear projection with a 2 span hipped roof partly fills the rear courtyard. The surviving features all appear to be early C19 but the plan form suggests the possibility of fabric surviving from the pre C19 house. Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front with a central porch with paired pilasters and a moulded cornice ; moulded cornice below parapet. Fenestration of early C19 16-pane sash windows. Sash windows to the left and right returns, casement windows to the rear. Round-headed rear stair window with Y tracery and margin glazing. Interior: Early C19 features survive including plaster cornices and a good stick baluster stair. A photograph in the possession of the owners shows a former orangery adjoining at the right end of the main range, demolished circa 1960.
