Dated 1811 or 1841 (obscure) altered. For the Chesterfield Canal Company. Coursed, squared rubble limestone, brick soffit. Single span, carries road over canal at turnover of towpath. Chamfered jambs and projecting springing stones to chamfered, ashlar segmental arch, keystone with dated ledge over. Abutment walls sweep round to form ramped retaining walls of footpaths leading from road to towpath; north-east wall returns at a right angle whilst that to north-west terminates in rebuilt end pier. Upper part of east parapet rebuilt in blue brick as in most of west parapet, rounded stone copings. C20 trunking fixed to east side of bridge. Spans the Chesterfield Canal surveyed by James Brindley and built between 1771 and 1777. Datestone here probably refers to arch alteration in keeping with other bridges along the canal which are mostly of brick throughout and dated c1840.
