Details ST 56 SW BUTCOMBE C.P. BUTCOMBE COURT ROAD (east side) 6/64 Butcombe Court, The Old Manor and 9.2.61 Mulberry House G.V. II Detached house, now in 3 separate ownerships. Possible medieval site with late C18 house, early and late C19 alterations and additions. Render with dressed stone openings and copings, slate roofs. North facade of 7 bays with slightly advanced 5-bay centre. 2 storeys and attics. Windows with moulded and keyed architraves are C19 sixteen-pane sashes. Central part glazed late C19 stone porch with cornice and blocking course and 2-leaf door. Moulded parapet with decorative stone urns and pineapple finials on set back side wings. Hipped roofs, rendered and brick stacks. West facade has 1 storey lean-to conservatory, rear facade has 6 panel door with rectangular fanlight. Interior. 2 ground floor rooms with raised and fielded panelling and later, c.1880, strapwork ceilings and recesses. C18 panelling in central passage and dado panelling in north west corner room with embossed leather panels above; also fine late C18 wooden chimney piece. Grand staircase is late C19 as is panelled room at north east corner. (W.J. Robinson, West Country Manors, 1930).
