Category C Date Added 07/11/2007 Local Authority Scottish Borders Planning Authority Scottish Borders Parish Bedrule NGR NT 59831 17729 Coordinates 359831, 617729 — Probably mid 19th century. High single-arched bridge over the Rule Water with plain string course defining edge of voussoirs and dentilled string course at base of coped parapet. Splayed wing walls stepped inwards over arch, terminated at outer ends by stumpy piers. Polished sandstone ashlar arch, parapet and coping; squared rubble wing walls. — This is a fine mid-19th century bridge with good stonework, occupying a prominent position. It is particularly visible on the approach from the N and W. It is hard to date the bridge precisely as a bridge in this location appears on maps as early as 1770, though from the style of the stonework, the bridge is likely to be mid-19th century and that shown on earlier maps must the predecessor to the present bridge.
