Details PARISH OF RISLEY DERBY ROAD SK 46 NE 2/98 (South Side) Balustrades, Gateway 10.11.67 and Bridge on Terrace to SE of Risley Hall GV II* Balustrade and gateway. Early C17 with minor later repairs. Long balustrade with thick, shaped splat balusters, and plain piers with ovolo moulded edges and half balusters to either side. The copings are chamfered with an ovolo moulded lower edge. Each pier has a pedestal over with a chamfered base and top which carries a finial of sorts, some steeple finials, one fruit bowl finial and various moulded finials. To the western end is a stepped bridge over the stream which supports a gateway. This gateway has a central moulded four-centred arched doorcase with early C20 iron gate, flanked by semi-circular headed niches with roll moulded arches, with shield keystones and moulded capitals. Above is a continuous dripmould, stepped up over the door, and above again is a crowstepped gable with elaborately moulded copings and steeple finials to centre and either edge. The north front of the gate is similar with high crowstepped walls to either side and a flight of steps between.
