Details SK 81 NE WYMONDHAM BUTT LANE (west side) 7/147 Wymondham Windmill 31.10.72 II* Windmill. c.1813. Raised mid C19 and restored late C20. Coursed and squared ironstone and brick, partly rendered, with a sheet-metal covered C20 ogee domed cap with finial. Battered round tower, 5 stages. To south west, a double door with wooden lintel and above it, a casement. Above again, a square hatch. Above again a blank fourth stage and above again, a casement. To south east, a casement, and above it, a casement and a projecting pulley for an auxiliary drive. Above again, a blank third stage. Above again, a casement. To north east, a stable door and above it, a double door. Above it, a casement. Above again, a blank fourth stage. Above again, a casement. To north west, a casement on the first and second stages. Above, a blank third stage. Above again, a casement. These casements have glazing bars and slight segmental heads. The cap has a fantail stage and a cross for 6 sails. The interior has 3 pairs of stones with garners, feed hoppers and tentering gear, all C19, complete and in use. Upper stages have octagonal oak main shaft, sack hoist, hand gear and wind shaft.
