Details WORCESTER SO8554NW COLLEGE STREET 620-1/17/187 (West side) 19/08/99 First World War Memorial (Formerly Listed as: COLLEGE STREET (West side) First War Memorial) GV II War memorial. c1919. Limestone ashlar. Gothic Revival style. Octagonal base has 7 steps to octagonal plinth with cusped tracery to panels embellished with shields with regimental coats of arms; above a band with fleurons; battlements; surmounted by shaped base to octagonal shaft with surmounting cross with foliate decoration. Inscribed to steps: 'The county/ to her sons who gave their lives in the Great War/ 1914 1918/ and to her sons and daughters/ who fell in the Great War of/ 1939 1945'. A significant streetscape feature, forming part of the setting of Cathedral Church of Christ and St Mary (qv).
