Details NZ 2161 SE WHICKHAM FRONT STREET (south side) 17/134 - Windmill in King George's Field (Chase park) 180 metres south of street GV II Windmill. Circa 1720. Coursed squared sandstone, no roof visible. Slightly tapered tower. Chamfered stone lintels and irregular-block jambs to north and south doors with added date 1567 on lintel. Plain stone surrounds composed of 4 irregular slabs to small windows at different levels and on all 4 sides. Renewed stone upper courses appear to be C20 and are straighter than the slightly sloped lower part. All window and door openings blocked with sandstone rubble; also blocked holes for beams at second floor level. Mound surrounds mill to height of 5ft from ground level. Historical note: 1806 newspaper advertisement for remainder of 99-year lease suggests 1720 date.
