Heritage listing
Details First World War memorial with later additions for the Second World War. It was moved in 1971. MATERIALS: Portland stone. DESCRIPTION: the memorial stands on the village green at the centre of West Moors. It consists of a plain wheel-headed cross which rises from a tapering square plinth on a two-stepped base. The inscription on the front face reads WEST MOORS/ UNVEILED SEPTEMBER 26 1920/ REMOVED TO THIS SITE JUNE 1971. The side of the plinth reads THESE/ GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR HUMANITY IN THE/ GREAT WARS/ 1914 - 1918/ 1939 - 1945/ THEIR NAME LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE. The other two faces list the names of the fallen. The first is preceded by IN HONOURED MEMORY, and the second by 1939 - 1945. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 27 February 2018.
