Category B Date Added 20/02/2002 Local Authority Perth And Kinross Planning Authority Perth And Kinross Burgh Crieff NGR NN 86203 21807 Coordinates 286203, 721807 — Peter MacGregor Chalmers, architect; Peter Crerar, Crieff, builder; 1921. 3-stage cross finialled, octagonal WWI war memorial with WWII inscription. Cullaloe stone. 24'6" high. MEMORIAL: battered octagonal base, each face with cast bronze plate containing names of fallen, surmounted by relief carved band with inscription "IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THOSE WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WARS 1914-18 1939-45" (See Notes). Stepped 2nd stage reducing to slender octagonal shaft (again battered) banded with regimental emblems, symbols of the Colonies and Nursing Services giving way to heavily carved capital bearing Scottish Arms, St Andrews Cross, Arms of Perth County and Burgh of Crieff, alternating with Scottish thistles. Whole surmounted by cross. BOUNDARY WALLS: low, flat-coped squared rubble boundary walls with inset ironwork railings and gate. — Erected on a site chosen by the architect and unveiled by Major General Bannatine Allason on 20 November, 1921, the memorial commemorates the sacrifice of 168 men and 2 women (members of the Army Nursing Service). The inscription has been altered to include WWII.
