Details BISHOP AUCKLAND NZ22NW CROWN STREET, South Church 634-1/5/143 (North side (off)) War Memorial to north of Church of St Andrew GV II War memorial approx 20m S of N lych gate at Church of St Andrew (qv). c1920. To 1914-1918 war. Ashlar. Curb and piers around 3-stepped square base of tall tapered cross in Saxon style, imitating C8/C9 cross fragments within Church of St Andrew, with interlace and inhabited vine scroll. Cross head has boss and armpits, and roll-ended arms. Long lists of names of dead, many of Durham Light Infantry, on stepped base. Listing NGR: NZ2161428640 This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 24 July 2017.
