Prominently sited, pink sand stone ashlar monolith memorial with shouldered plinth and stepped base. Moulded garland framing commemorative bronze plaque with further bronze plaque addition below. — The West Linton War Memorial is a simple tapering sandstone ashlar monolith in the style of War Graves Commission work by J J Burnett and R S Lorimer. It displays a moulded garland framing a bronze plaque dedicated by the people of West Linton parish in proud and grateful memory of the men of the parish who fell in the Great War 1914-18. A second plaque below is dedicated to the men who fell in the Second World War 1939-45. The memorial is prominently sited in front of St Andrew's Parish Church (see separate listing). Peter McGregor Chalmers (1859-1922) is best known for his almost exclusively ecclesiastical earlier work, mostly in a distinctive Romanesque manner. List description updated at resurvey (2010).
