Details This list entry was subject to a Minor Amendment on 21/11/2014 1403/0/10002 FERRYHILL, MAINSFORTH, War Memorial affixed to Memorial Cottage (Formerly listed as War Memorial and Memorial Cottage) 24-SEP-03 II War memorial and attached cottage. 1922. Polished marble. Erected to commemorate those men who worked for the Mainsforth Colliery. A rectangular grey marble plaque topped by curved moulded cornice. The centre contains a carved laurel wreath surrounded by the inscription: - MAINSFORTH COLLIERY AND FERRYHILL STATION, WAR MEMORIAL, 1914-1919. Below are listed the names of all those who died in three columns. Beneath is inscribed: - THEIR NAME LIVETH FOREVER. This war memorial is securely attached to the front wall of Memorial Cottage; this cottage is not of special interest. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register. These sources were not used in the compilation of this List entry but are added here as a guide for further reading, 10 August 2017.
