Details SO6089SE 11/114 WALLINGFORD MARKET PLACE (South side) Wallingford War Memorial and surround approx, 15m of The Town Hall GV II War Memorial. c,1921, with post 1945 inscriptions. Stone: bronze statue. Square stepped base; square plinth with bronze panels of names to each side. Decorative frieze to top. Statue of female figure holding wreath, by Geo. Alexander (?). Shallow stone plinth surround forming 4 flower beds in a circle round the base. The surround was the former base to the pillar, now in the Bullcroft (q.v.), which marked the spot where bulls were baited. (V.C.H.: Berkshire, Vol,III, 1923, p.520).
