Details COLWICH TRENT AND MERSEY SK 02 SW CANAL 2/10009 Colwich Bridge No 71 GV II Canal accommodation bridge. 1766-70 together with adjacent lock. By James Brindley, Surveyor General. Red brick with stone coping. Single span with humped back and without towpath. Elliptical headed arch. Swept wings terminating in piers on lower side and trailing edge on uper towpath side. Stone quoins to jambs up to springing point. Stone plaque at crown on both sides (with cast iron number plate attached). Cast iron guard plates to parapet on both sides. Late C20 concrete steps down to lower level on towpath side. Minor repairs include section of pier on lower off-side. The Trent and Mersey Canal was built between 1766 and 1777.
