Details SOWERBY BRIDGE ROCHDALE ROAD SE 0422 and SE 0522 (west side), Triangle 15/207 The Triangle - - II Public House. Late C18. Coursed squared stone, stone slate roof. 3 storeys with attic, 5 x 2 bays. Quoins. Openings have plain stone surrounds, windows with flat- faced mullions. From left: bay 1: door flanked by 1-light windows with taking-in door above and 1-light window to 2nd floor. Bay 2: a 2-light window to each floor. Bay 3: main entrance, the doorway with C20 wood surround and cornice with 2-light window above to each floor. Bay 4: a 1-light window to each floor. Bay 5: door flanked by 1-light windows with 3-light window above on each floor. Plain gutter brackets. 3 broad ridge stacks and later brick eaves stack to bay 4. Right return: to centre of ground floor a First World War Memorial in aedicule form; to either side on each floor a keyed Venetian window with raised cill and lintels; keyed Diocletian window to attic. The village is said to have taken its name from the pub, and the first recorded licence to have been made in 1777 (information from publican).
