Details MANSFIELD SK5361 LEEMING STREET 924-1/5/54 (East side) Mansfield Community Arts Centre II Former Carnegie library, now community centre. Dated 1904, converted c1975. Brick with ashlar front and dressings, and hipped slate roof behind parapet. Baroque Revival style. Plinth, first-floor sill band, main cornice, plain coped parapet with stepped panelled central pedestal. 2 storeys; 1:3:1 bays. Recessed central bay flanked by single 12-pane sashes in the side bays. Beyond, set back narrow single bays, the right one with an 8-pane sash. Central loggia with 2 Doric columns in antis, linked by a railing. Glazing bar cross casement flanked by smaller 10-pane casements. Above, massive central pediment extending to the main cornice, with swagged keystone and containing a moulded semicircular recess. In the recess, a renewed inscribed panel with swags, flanked by enriched pilasters and allegorical figures. On either side, a square porch with Doric pilasters and broken pediment, the left one with a wooden-framed glazing bar casement with apron, the right one with a late C20 wrought-iron screen and door. INTERIOR has entrance hall with wooden paybox in Baroque Revival style, with round-headed window under broken pediment, flanked by single windows, and to right, a door. Cantilever concrete dogleg stair with wrought-iron balustrade. Single-storey reading room has 5-bay blind arcade and gabled glazed clerestorey roof.
