Date Added 06/04/1992 Supplementary Information Updated 24/01/2024 Type Ecclesiastical: chapel Local Authority Na h-Eileanan Siar Planning Authority Na h-Eileanan Siar Parish Barvas NGR NB 52309 65425 Coordinates 152309, 965425 — The monument consists of the remains of a chapel called Teampull Ronaidh. The chapel is situated on the summit of a slight eminence overlooking the sea to the N. It survives as a stony, sub-rectangular raised mound. It is orientated E to W and measures 8m E-W by 6m N-S. The site is divided by a croft boundary fence. It is locally believed to be the oldest church site in Northern Lewis. The chapel was listed by Martin (writing c.1695) as the church of St Ronan. The area to be scheduled is square and measures a maximum of 20m squared centred on the chapel as marked in red on the accompanying map. The modern fence is excluded from the scheduling.
