Date Added 19/03/1992 Supplementary Information Updated 24/01/2024 Type Ecclesiastical: church Local Authority Na h-Eileanan Siar Planning Authority Na h-Eileanan Siar Parish Barvas NGR NB 50853 63830 Coordinates 150853, 963830 — The monument consists of the remains of a pre-Reformation church called Teampull Pheadair. The ruin, situated within an old graveyard, is of a narrow oblong structure orientated E-W. Only the E-end portion of the church remains upstanding, namely the gable (height 3.5m approx), a 6m length of the N wall and the angle of the E gable and the S wall survive to any height. The remainder of the building survives as wall footings indicating an external measurement of 18m E-W by 6m N-S over walls 0.7m thick. The masonry consists of thin courses of random stone with pinnings which are interspersed with occasional rows of large boulders. Fine shingle mortar has been used. There is a single flat-headed slit window in the E gable. Above it are two log holes. Burial enclosures of 19th.C date have been built against the North and East walls. There are numerous burials within the church interior. The area to be scheduled is rectangular and measures a maximum of 22m E-W by 10m N-S as shown in red on the accompanying map.
