DESCRIPTION: Stokesby with Herringby War Memorial is located in the churchyard of St Andrew’s Church, Filby Road, Stokesby, Norfolk. It comprises a tall pillar with hipped cap, rusticated dressing to the sides, and relief carvings of a cross, sword, foliage, and the national flowers, as well as First World War inscriptions to the face. This elevated onto a stone base bearing the Second World War inscriptions, on a concrete foundation. The inscription is incised and reads: THIS MEMORIAL/ WAS ERECTED BY THE RESIDENTS OF/ STOKESBY WITH HERRINGBY/ IN LOVING MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING/ BRAVE MEN WHO SACRIFICED THEIR/ LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918/ (NAMES)/ GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS THAT A/ MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS/ ALSO OF/ (NAMES)/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR/ 1939 – 1945.
