Details The memorial stands at the north end of the village, on a green on the approach to the Church of St Botolph (listed Grade II*), by the former village school (now the Village Hall, Grade II-listed). Of limestone and c5m tall overall, it comprises a shallow, three-tier, octagonal base supporting a square plinth. A square-sectioned shaft rises from this at the head of which is a lantern with the monogram IHS carved in low relief on two opposing sides, and a wheel-head cross carved on the others. A ball finial is to the top. On the south (front) face of the plinth is carved in raised lettering IN GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THOSE WHO/ FELL IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919; to the west side is FOR GOD & COUNTRY/ FOR HONOUR & FREEDOM; to the east are the 8 names of those who fell, with those 3 lost in the Second World War added beneath with the dates 1939 1945; to the north THEIR NAME LIVETH/ FOR EVERMORE.
