Details A First World War Memorial; names have been subsequently added to commemorate the fallen of Second World War and later actions. MATERIAL: granite. DESCRIPTION: the memorial consists of a hexagonal four-tiered plinth, topped by a roughly-hewn wheel cross. There are several stone plaques on the memorial that bear inscriptions including ‘IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF STARCROSS WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1919’, ‘1939 – 1945/WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE’ and ‘ALSO OF L/C DUMBLETON, KILLED IN ACTION CYPRUS 1975’ and the names of the Fallen. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 8 December 2016.
