Category B Date Added 29/03/1995 Local Authority Scottish Borders Planning Authority Scottish Borders Burgh Peebles NGR NT 25328 40464 Coordinates 325328, 640464 — William Burn, 1833-6; chancel, vestry and porch, Hay & Henderson, 1882-4; vestry further enlarge 1932. Small rectangular-plan preaching-box with gothic front. Coursed whinstone rubble, cream sandstone ashlar dressings and front. Pointed-arch windows with Y-tracery. NAVE: 3-bay; rectangular-plan. Gabled 3-bay symmetrical front with off-set buttresses terminating in tall finials dividing bays. Gabled and finialled whinstone porch (1882) to centre, doorway in pointed-arch panels, ashlar fanlight with patera. Tall cross window above with hood mould. Tall lancet windows to outer bays. parapet to centre with small gable and cross finial. Ashlar finals to rear skews. CHANCEL: 2-bay, rectangular-plan. 2 gabled bays to E. N (end) elevation with tall stepped tripartite window. Small diamond-pane leaded windows. Slate roof. INTERIOR: not seen 1994. Organ by Harrison, installed 1909; oak alter gifted in 1926. — Ecclesiastical building in use as such. The entrance stairs were removed at the time of the 1882 alterations. The organ is one of the smallest three-manual instruments ever built.
