Background

History

The present church was built on the site of an earlier church between 1881 and 1884. The architect was John Douglas and its expense was met partly by the 1st Duke of Westminster. In the 1990s the spire was destroyed by fire and has been rebuilt.

Architecture

The monochrome reredos is by Shrigley and Hunt. Two of the stained glass windows are by Heaton, Butler and Bayne, and one is by Kempe. There is a ring of eight bells, all of which were cast by John Taylor and Company, six of them in 1882 and the other two in 1903.
