Category B Date Added 15/02/1982 Local Authority Aberdeenshire Planning Authority Aberdeenshire Parish Cruden NGR NK 06839 35637 Coordinates 406839, 835637 — William Hay 1842-3. Originally 6-bay buttressed rectangle with lancets, slim W. tower with gablets and pinnacled spire, Chancel 1876 with E. end of 3 lancets. Pinned granite rubble. Plain interior, glass by Wailes. Early font with later I.H.S. vesica added. J. Taylor bell 1843. — Landmark Ecclesiastical building in use as such. William Hay was born Cruden 1818. Trained as an architect when convalescent. St. James was his first job: joined John Henderson 1844, thereafter to G.G. Scott's and America and Canada. The chancel was designed after he had formed a partnership with John Henderson's Son 1864.
