Category B Group Category Details 100000020 - See Notes Date Added 04/11/1971 Local Authority Dumfries And Galloway Planning Authority Dumfries And Galloway Parish Parton NGR NX 69710 69897 Coordinates 269710, 569897 — Built 1592. Ruins of simple rectangular church. E gable remains nearly complete with small bellcote inscribed "Lausdeo 1636", side walls have been lowered and consolidated, with sandstone coping in 19th century. Rubble walling with sandstone or gritstone chamfered margins. 2 resited corbels with leaf carving to E gable. Within the old church is a 19th century memorial marking the grave of James Clerk Maxwell physicist, died 1879. — The carved oak hexagonal pulpit of the old church dated 1598 is preserved in the National Museum of Antiquities in Edinburgh. B Group with Parton Parish Church.
