Category B Date Added 20/07/1971 Local Authority Argyll And Bute Planning Authority Argyll And Bute Parish Southend NGR NR 69066 08520 Coordinates 169066, 608520 — Dated 1889. Robert Hay, Glasgow. Georgian style. Oblong. Snecked rubble front and sides; harled rear. Piended slate roof. Round-headed windows and oculi. Projecting central pavilion at front end; belfry with ogee stone cap and ball-finial; inset with date '1889'. Large window with lunette. Plain interior: gallery. 2 PILLARS: outside, near front: square. Ashlar, rendered. Deep recesses. — Closed since 1965. Recently sold by Church of Scotland. Church (built 1797-8 for Lowlanders) which became UP 1847 Became C of S 1946. Only noteworthy building in Southend Village (formerly Newton Argyll) founded by Duke of Argyll 1797. Pillars gave shelter to office-bearers taking collection in bad weather.
