History

The church dates from the Middle Ages. The oldest part of the church dates from 1190. It is commonly known as the King of Holderness.

Description

"The church, a rectory dedicated to St Augustine of Hippo, is an Anglican church, valued in the parliamentary returns at £117 per annum. Patron, the sub-dean of York Minster. This church is held with the vicarage of Preston. It is the most interesting specimen of early pointed architecture in Holderness, and has recently been restored and carefully repaired under the direction of the rector, the Rev. W. Wasse, LL.D. In plan, it consists of a nave and aisles, transepts and chancel, with a handsome and lofty tower at the intersection. The west front is plain, and has a pointed window of five lights.
