Category B Date Added 12/01/1971 Local Authority South Lanarkshire Planning Authority South Lanarkshire Parish Carluke NGR NS 84345 50780 Coordinates 284345, 650780 — Henry Bell, 1799 incorporating earlier fabric; alterations and additions 1890 and 1912. Originally square-plan gabled gothick church with pinnacled central tower and porch added 1890. Further additions to rear forming asymmetrical plan. — A good late 18th century church. Hay notes that the Laird's loft is of particular interest. The church is the only identified work of Henry Bell (1767-1830), who is best known as a pioneer of steam navigation, but prior to this worked as an architect builder in the Glasgow firm, Bell and Paterson Builders.
