Details First World War memorial, dating probably from the early 1920s. DESCRIPTION: the memorial takes the form of a timber Calvary cross with a carved figure of Christ beneath a wooden and lead-clad gabled weatherhood. The wooden shaft is inscribed: TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN LOVING MEMORY OF / RICHARD SPURWAY / ALEXANDER SPURWAY / GEORGE SPURWAY / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE / 1914 GREAT WAR 1918. The base of the war memorial is encased with stone rubble. This List entry has been amended to add the source for War Memorials Online. This source was not used in the compilation of this List entry but is added here as a guide for further reading, 15 December 2016.
