Details DESCRIPTION: the memorial has a stepped three-stage square base. The upper stage has text in relief lead lettering saying ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF / ALL IN SOUTH REDDISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918. Above is a tall, battered pillar, with the names of the men and their regiments recorded in lead lettering on the four faces. It is surmounted by an entablature with PRO PATRIA in relief lettering on the frieze. This supports a Celtic cross rising from a rocky base with a relief-carved wreath to each face. The cross has relief rosettes at its centre and on each arm, with ropework carving on the circular element. This List entry has been amended to add sources for War Memorials Online and the War Memorials Register.
