Details NZ 41 NE (4919) 3/66 MIDDLESBROUGH PARK ROAD South African War Memorial, in Albert Park. G.V. II South African War Memorial, 1904 by F.W. Doyle Jones (Hartlepool). Red Peterhead granite, York stone steps, and bronze tablets. Obelisk, with linked volutes and bay-leaf swags at base, on tapered pedestal with heavily-moulded cornice. Moulded stepped base with bay-leaf and cyma-recta moulding on top step. 3 plain lower steps. Sculptured tablets, on north and south faces of die, depict fame (south) and patriotism. Names of fallen on raised-lettered tablet on west face. Included for historic interest.
